I Wish I Had Those Gasoline Pellets

An epic story of intertwined pasts, secrets that span generations, dangerous threats, strange phenomena, and the unknown. That is the plot of I Wish I Had Those Gasoline Pellets, the newest mystery/fiction book by author Carl Kegerreis.

The tale begins amidst the Vietnam War, wherein a young Captain of the Air Force of the United States, Oley Washington Jr., faces the hardship of being stranded in the middle of enemy territory. His fate is left to the hands of captors, who take Oley in as a prisoner and leave no breadcrumbs behind. As a result, the captain is considered MIA by the country he once served, just as many of his brothers in arms.

Many years later, the FBI retiree Haywood and his wife Lilly are enjoying their retirement on a trip that takes them to Canada and back to the US. When they get to Detroit, an idea pops into Haywood’s mind: he would write a book about the homeless community in the city, and his curiosity regarding the poor dwellers of that area takes him to witness a bizarre phenomenon that defies logic and common sense. But, little did he know, that was just the beginning of a series of improbable coincidences and uncanny miracles that would set his family and friends, as well as a national hero, on a risky – yet rewarding - route.

I Wish I Had Those Gasoline Pellets is a contemporary work of fiction written by Kegerreis right at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an enjoyable read – the author takes no time in excessively describing places and people, leaving it to the reader’s imagination and going straight to the action with short paragraphs and chapters. This book is an excellent read for when you need some fiction magic to let your mind wander leisurely.

Searching for Elock

One common thing that children would always love to do is take on crazy adventures. In fact, they can't seem even to get enough of it. Every child loves to engage in activities that stimulate wild and extravagant ideas in their minds. However, what if all those 'ideas' had the possibility of coming true one day? What if you begin to notice that your dreams are becoming more and more a part of the real world?

Well, this is the right book for you, my friend. Searching for Elock by Carl Kegerreis is a sequel book that follows the adventures of a group of six middle-schoolers as they run to and fro a hidden cave in their neighborhood. The story of Tibby, Fogel, Rex, Coley, Darnell, and their caveboy friend, Teboy, along with their dog, Starber, is definitely a must-have in your children's library!

The story sets on a fun-filled quest with talking huge fishes with wings that take you on rides, meeting a magical being whom Tibby only saw in his dreams named Elock, and a cave full of gold. This book is an alluring tale of how earth-dwellers infiltrate the cavemen and their King, experiencing magical creatures roaming about the very tunnels in the process.

Oh, but the list of exciting things only gets longer as the book's central theme is profoundly a heart-warming story of friendship as the children make more and more friends as they go along the way. The great plot twist, a twist I have never anticipated, is spectacular!

The author has done marvelous work, from a chapter recapitulating significant events from the first book to the ground-breaking challenges that brought its characters into a great dilemma leading to its triumphant ending. Some say this book ought to be wonderfully meticulous to the little details of the story. Aside from this daring skillsmanship, the book portrays vivid descriptions of the people, places, and events. All the more, making the book quite an easy read for children (and adults) who love a fast-paced story and strong imagination.

This book is perfect for children who love a good challenge.

Tibby and His Friend's Big Secret

Author Carl E. Kegerreis writes a compelling book about a boy, his dog, his best friend, their class bully now turned friend, and a mysterious redhead girl and her little brother.

In his book, “Tibby and His Friend’s Big Secret,” the main character, Tibby, is a newspaper boy who lives in a village with his mom and his white male shepherd dog, Starber.

One day while going on his paper route to deliver newspapers, he discovers an old spooky mansion. Rumor has it that the Morcort’s mansion is haunted, and no one has lived there for several years until now.

Strange things have been happening around the house lately. From seeing a mysterious redhead girl and her brother to meeting an otherworldly creature who is the commander of the Winggots, Tibby and his best friend, Rex, may encounter an adventure of a lifetime.

The book touches on themes like friendship, imagination, and overcoming your fears to do what is right. Every page comes with excitement and adventure, and as I flip through the pages, I can’t help but want to read more of Tibby’s experiences.

While the book is recommended for advanced beginner readers ages 9 to 12, mature readers can surely benefit from its premise. The author effortlessly shifts the simplicity of the village setting to whimsical and exciting with a few words, making it an overall compelling read. Readers can also expect a surprise activity at the end of the book, which is beneficial for teachers and parents who wish to bond with their kids.

In short, I highly recommend this book as a starter read for children. With creative characters, a fun adventure, and engaging activity, there is no doubt that the book will teach young readers how to use their creative imagination to the fullest.

Fleeing A Country Seeking A New Life

Author Carl Kegerreis is no stranger to writing. After signing a copy of his book, “Tibby and His Friend’s Big Secret,” to a friend’s daughter, the friend Ibrahim Mahmoud (Abe) approached him a few weeks later for a request. The request? Write a book about his family’s story.

“Fleeing A Country Seeking A New Life” recalls the tales of two business owners in Sylvania, Ohio. Both Ibrahim Mahmoud (Abe) and Mohamed Joseph (Mike) are two immigrants who have left their country, Lebanon, to search for greener pastures.

Throughout the book, both men recall their family histories to the author. As we read through the pages, we learn of their family history, childhood, and unique experiences as they become naturalized citizens of the United States of America.

The author does a great job of conveying the unique experiences of these two men with sensitivity and brevity.

The struggles of immigrants are unique in themselves. Nevertheless, they all share the same underlying goal: To build better lives for their future families.

The book covers several essential themes. From honoring one’s family to thanking God for the little miracles, we experience in our daily lives. Both Ibrahim Mahmoud and Mohamed Joseph have achieved the American dream that so many have struggled to reach their entire lives. Their grace, humility, and hardworking characteristics are admirable, and it was a great pleasure to see them grow their legacy in the United States.

Overall, the book is an inspiring read. The author makes it a great point to include photos, newspaper clippings, and additional commentary. Reading through this book, you can’t help but feel wholly inspired as these men continuously praise the blessings they receive daily. Something as simple as being able to use a modern-day amenity is just as miraculous as starting fresh in a new country. If you wish to learn how to be grateful, this book does a great job of teaching you to do just that.
